John Cusack isn't really an actor I associate with action movies, but he did a good job in The Contract. Of course, his character wasn't really intended to be your typical hero; he was supposed to be an average Joe. I thought the back-story about the father/son bonding trip to the woods was a nice touch, albeit a tad cheesy. Either way, the movie was better than I expected. Well, to tell the truth, I didn't expect much of anything. As I kind of hinted at, this one isn't overly action-oriented, so I'd recommend it to anyone who enjoys a mild action movie. My only complaint was the personable nature of the hitman. Not that I'm saying a hitman has to be cold-hearted, but it just seems contradictory. At the same time, I liked the fact that he was that way, so maybe that's not really a complaint, but just something unexpected I had to get past.

I expected Shoot 'Em Up  to be a somewhat stupid... well, shoot 'em up movie, like Smokin' Aces . I never thought it was going to be as funny as it was. This was a total man's movie. Think sex, violence, and... wait, that's about it. The whole time, I kept thinking about Crank . Both of these movies were very similar. There is one thing Shoot 'Em Up had that Crank didn't: the questionably perfect mix of sex and violence. I won't say any more, tho. You'll just have to see it for yourself. Of course, you'll definitely be rolling your eyes throughout the movie. You might expect this with some of the action movies of late. Nothing too over-the-top, tho, so it's still enjoyable. As a matter of fact, this one's better than Crank. I'd recommend it to anyone who likes a good action movie. The comedy just makes it even better.

If you liked Shoot 'Em Up, I'd recommend Crank.

The Immortal  is what you get when you mix a little Highlander  with a cheap vampire movie and throw in a dash of "what the hell?" Of course, we can't forget the crappy acting. The whole time I was trying to figure out what the point was. I originally got the movie and kept thinking about how it seemed so much like a TV series. Low and behold, it was. Apparently, the movie is just the first two episodes. The rest of the series held true to the cheap, Highlander rip-off impression I initially got. Unless you're a die-hard Lorenzo Lamas fan or just a sucker for pain, you might as well stay away from this one. It's not absolutely horrible, but I wouldn't call it good by any means. If you're bored and it's just sitting there, watch the movie. Like I said, the rest of the series is pretty much the same, so you'll get the gist of what you're "missing."

Bourne Ultimatum  was a good finale to the Bourne series (Identity , Surpremacy ). This one definitely kept up with the fast-paced nature of the previous two and perhaps even stepped it up a notch. I will say Live Free or Die Hard  still topped it as far as action is concerned, tho. Of course, some of this was perhaps more believable than Die Hard. There were a few parts of the movie I felt like weren't detailed enough. There seemed to be a moment between Jason and Nicky where Nicky knew something, but was holding back. I wanted to know what that was about. I was almost expecting her to bring up some relationship the two had. Then again, I imagine that would've come up in the previous movie if there was one. The only complaint I had about this one was the camera work. Just like Transformers , the camera work in Bourne Ultimatum was very shaky. This was very hard to follow some of the close-quarters action sequences. I hope Hollywood gets over this style soon. I'm not holding my breath, tho.

I definitely enjoyed Transformers . I'm guessing a lot of the negativity about the movie probably comes from people expecting a lot out of it. Perhaps this is why I wasn't disappointed; I didn't expect much at all. I was annoyed at some of the pot shots they took at the government; I just thought it was fairly tasteless. There was a lot of product placement, but I wasn't worried much about that. I did leave the theater wanting a Chevy, tho. Talk about product placement, that was a very smart move for Chevy. To bring it back to the movie, I might add that the camera work was a bit too shaky for me. This is pretty much the same as in The Shield , which I find annoying. This has been getting more and more popular for some reason, but I have no idea why. Actioin movies are not the right place to do this type of camera work. I'm assuming they want you to feel like you're more involved, but it's just hard to follow what's going on. I also didn't like how overly complicated the transformers looked and the transformations were.

I almost didn't watch Deja Vu  because I thought I'd already seen it. Is it just me or are Denzel Washington's  movies starting to run together? You're pretty hard-pressed to find two that don't have similar concepts. Anyway, I'm glad I watched the movie because it was quite interesting. The concept was that the government is funding a project that allows them to see what happened four days ago, if I remember correctly. I don't want to dig into it any more than that, tho, because it might give away some hints I feel like are nice surprises. Let me just say that there's a bit of a scifi twist in this one that I didn't expect. If you've avoided this one because of Denzel's past movies, but typically like scifi, I'd say give this one a chance.
