I didn't expect a whole lot when I went to go see I Know Who Killed Me . Honestly, I figured it'd be pretty stupid, but there wasn't much out and I wanted to go see a movie. I was actually surprised. If you're not into gorey movies, there will be parts that you'll cringe at. I didn't expect that at all, which was nice. I always like when a movie surprises you. This one did just that... from two angles. I will say the movie was somewhat predictable, tho. Not horribly predictable, but enough to figure out what was going on. There were too many things that didn't fit together. Maybe I was analysing it a bit too much, but things just didn't make sense... like the stupid cat. What was up with that cat!? I wanted it to mean something, but it just didn't. I also wonder what was up with all the blue. Everything was blue. I guess that's my biggest complaint about the movie: so much was left unexplained. The ending was kind of aggravating for that reason. I just thought, "Is that it?" Apparently it was.
If you're a Die Hard ( 2 , 3 ) fan, Live Free or Die Hard is definitely something you should make a point to see. Hell, if you like action movies, you need to see it. This is the most action-packed movie I've ever seen. Sure, there were moments you wanted to roll your eyes at impossibilities, but I guess I've learned to live with that. If you've seen Transporter 2, you know exactly what I'm talking about. I wanted so much to hate Justin Long's character, but I couldn't. It was also nice to see Kevin Smith in the movie. He always plays interesting characters. Bottom line is, if you haven't seen this one, see it.

Deja Vu
I almost didn't watch Deja Vu because I thought I'd already seen it. Is it just me or are Denzel Washington's movies starting to run together? You're pretty hard-pressed to find two that don't have similar concepts. Anyway, I'm glad I watched the movie because it was quite interesting. The concept was that the government is funding a project that allows them to see what happened four days ago, if I remember correctly. I don't want to dig into it any more than that, tho, because it might give away some hints I feel like are nice surprises. Let me just say that there's a bit of a scifi twist in this one that I didn't expect. If you've avoided this one because of Denzel's past movies, but typically like scifi, I'd say give this one a chance.
I didn't expect much when I went to go see Sunshine ; the trailer didn't say a whole lot. The scifi nature of it is honestly what made me go see it. I was somewhat surprised to see four people I recognize from other movies. Granted, none are huge names, but they have all been in big movies. Despite all that, the movie was still somewhat slow. I kind of expected that for some reason, tho. I kind of got an Event Horizon meets Hellraiser feeling from the movie. You probably won't get that until the latter part of the movie, tho. Honestly, neither perception truly fits this one; but I have a feeling that if you liked them, you'll probably like this one. I felt like it was so-so; but I felt the same about those other movies.
Speaking of Hellraiser, looks like there's going to be a remake . As a huge Clive Barker fan, I'm definitely signing up for this. I just hope it's overly successful and that he follows that up with a Nightbreed remake. Nightbreed was based on the short story Cabal, which is my all-time favorite book.
If you liked Sunshine, I'd recommend Event Horizon.
I don't remember much of Ocean's 12 , but I will say that 13 was better. It was definitely a good sequel. If you enjoyed Ocean's 11 , you'll want to check this one out. Honestly, I'm surprised they were able to squeeze two more movies out of it, but that's Hollywood for ya. These days, it seems like they're starting to run out of ideas. You're hard-pressed to find a truly original movie concept. Either way, I don't see a fourth on the horizon, but I wouldn't be surprised. If they did go for another, I'm thinking we might have to get out of Vegas for once.

Next
I didn't expect much from Next when I saw the trailer, but I still had to check it out. Nicholas Cage typically has good movies and, besides the odd-looking haircut, I think he did a good job. In the end, I really liked it. Of course, if you've heard anything about it, you've probably heard about the crappy ending. I have mixed feelings about it. I understand it, but I don't like it. You leave the theater almost expecting a sequel. Then again, I just don't see a sequel being anywhere near as good as this one... and that's not saying this was a great movie. Besides, knowing how the visions worked and Chris' (Cage) one prerequisite for helping the feds, I just don't see how a sequel would work.
I do have to complain about one thing: the special effects in this movie were third, if not fourth rate. Well, not all of them. Specifically, what annoyed me were the background shots. There were a couple of hellicopter and car shots that really stuck out to me. They looked like they were from the early '90s. I can't understand why it was so bad; especially, after seeing 300 , which was completely green-screened.
Ya know, there is one thing I kick myself for not checking, but the credits rolled in reverse. With that, I'm very curious if there was a special scene at the end of the credits, like in Daredevil and X-Men: The Last Stand . Has anyone seen the end of the credits? I'm doubtful there's anything there, but the thought did cross my mind. Heck, it'd even go with the whole plot of the movie.
Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning was ok, but nothing all that special. If you're into blood and guts movies, this is most definitely one of them. Maybe I just wasn't in the mood for one of these movies, but I don't think I'd really suggest anyone run out and grab it. If you liked any of the previous movies on the subject and/or liked Hostel or The Hills Have Eyes , you'll probably want to see this one. Either way, I'd say borrow it from a friend instead of going out of your way to rent it.
If you liked Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning, I'd suggest The Hills Have Eyes.
I was completely taken by surprise when I watched Disturbia . The opening scene almost made me question whether or not I was in the right theater and the follow-on scene wasn't much different. I found myself trying to guess what was going to happen for Kale, the main character, to be placed on house arrest. This is obviously the main reason I was thrown off. I expected him to be a troubled kid off the bat, but he wasn't. I liked how they played that a lot. Very well done. As if that wasn't enough, the movie was very entertaining on multiple levels. I didn't think the movie would be nearly as good as it was. I expected an average movie; not even close to the edge-of-your-seat thriller it was. In addition to that, the interspersing of comedic moments throughout the movie was perfect. All-in-all, I this this was a fantastic movie... if you didn't get that. Given the fact that I haven't heard much about this movie from friends, I'm guessing others had the same impression of it based on the trailer. Don't let that fool you, tho. This one is absolutely worth the time! See it in the theaters while you can.
The Prestige came out about the same time The Illusionist came out and, while I half-expected one to trump the other in the theaters, they both seemingly had a decent viewing. Apparently, my opinions aren't quite typical, tho. I found The Prestige to be fairly boring until the end. Perhaps it was how the story was told. I'm not really sure. All I do know is that I didn't really get as involved with it as I did with The Illusionist, which I thought was much better. The best part of The Prestige was the last 10 minutes of it. Outside of that, the rest was just about average. Perhaps this is the difference between a battle for love and a battle for... well, prestige. One obviously tugs at the strings a bit more than the other. They both had similar a-ha moments, which was nice -- and the main reason I liked the last bit of The Prestige -- but the last 10 minutes doesn't make a movie. Nonetheless, if you liked one, I'd definitely suggest checking out the other. Chances are you'll like both at some level. I am curious what others thought.
If you liked The Prestige, I'd suggest The Illusionist.
