If you haven't seen August Rush, you need to. The movie was simply fantastic. I have to admit, however, that it fell short of the excellence I was expecting/hoping for. What was it missing?
I guess I just wanted to see the family get together at the end. Sure, there was the idea of them getting together, but I think there'd have been more of an emotional investment seeing them openly accept Evan and give us a hint as to the life they'd all live together. The look just wasn't enough for me.
Another thing that threw me off was Wizard, played by Robin Williams. When I saw the trailer, I was very excited about him being in it. I love the way he was portrayed as Evan's mentor.
When his bad side kicked in, I was kind of put off.
Don't get me wrong, I understand why the writer(s) did that, but I just wish
the trailer didn't sell me one impression and deliver another
. Despite that, tho, I loved the movie. This had the potential of being the best movie I've seen in a long time, but I think it fell short with the ending. Either way, I'd recommend it to anyone who's even slightly into music, romance, or family dramas.
